Martial Arts

Kungfu and Karate

At Breaking Wave we have two incredible martial arts courses. Karate (Kyokushin) and Kungfu (Wushu).

These two styles are stand alone arts that can take practitioners through an entire journey into martial arts from white to black belt and beyond!

THE Breaking Wave DIFFERENCE

Through a unique, tight-knit community atmosphere, students of all ages and abilities are welcomed to gain life-long confidence, friendships, and skills with fun yet challenging exercises.

Kungfu

While emphasizing forms training, empty hand and weapons routines have always been of great importance in Kungfu. We blend basic and complex movements inherent to our art (including stances, kicks, punches, balances, jumps, sweeps and throws) in dynamic forms routines.

WUSHU KUNGFU

Emphasizing Longfist as the foundation, Wushu contains a balance of hand and foot techniques, but in particular it is renowned for its impressive acrobatic kicks.  In demonstration events, this style's techniques are most popular and memorable for their whirling, running, leaping, and acrobatics. Wushu Kungfu moves are difficult to perform, requiring great flexibility and athleticism comparable to that of gymnastics.

After students progress through beginner and intermediate empty, staff and broadsword they will continue to work toward a wider repertoire of empty hand and weapons routines including spear, tiger-crane, and other (Fanzi, Tongbei, 3 Section Staff, Chain whip, Double Broadsword etc).

Karate

"Kyokushin" is Japanese for "The Ultimate Truth". It is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline, and hard training. Kyokushin Karate offers a powerful combination of tradition and sport.

During Karate classes students walk this path of the martial way as they learn the foundation of Karate through the 3 pillars of training: Kihon (Basics), Kata (Forms), and Kumite (Fighting). Karate classes at Fighting Spirit Karate — North (FSK North) are perfect for instruction and aid in fitness, flexibility, balance, as well as mental strength, and fortitude!

While Kyokushin is known for its power and practicality, not everyone who pursues training in Kyokushin Karate needs to be a competitive fighter. This style of martial arts can be practiced by anyone and will benefit anyone who dedicates themselves to it as a means of self-mastery!
