CMAA Re-opening!
Though I am hearing things about reopening the economy and martial arts schools in general I have chose to remain quiet about our plans to do so.  This is not because we have no plan.  In fact it is because I have so many different thoughts about how to provide opportunities to our students and the precautions we can take to ensure the health and wellness of our members. Because of that I am waiting to hear more concrete information from our government so we can determine which ways forwards will be the most appropriate.

Depending on how it is decided that martial arts schools reopen we may see phases of a reintroduction to regular classes.  For example this may include continuing online classes, or offering a mix of online classes and onsite classes. For onsite classes we may be looking at limiting group size and limiting frequency of attendance in order to limit exposure.  We may require soft masks be worn (personal, or provided by CMAA).  We might shorten the length of certain classes, but increase frequency of those classes in order to make sure everyone has more opportunities to join.  It is possible that we may provide open mat opportunities for senior practitioners or develop private or small group private sessions as well.

All the potential ways forward would be coordinated with a strict protocol of sanitizing the space, and ensuring that there be plenty of handwashing, sanitizers, and wipes.    We would avoid sharing equipment and contact in general.

While taking such precautions class structure would need to be modified.  However, I can guarantee we will still conduct highly productive, meaningful classes.  I have found this to be case with online classes in general.  In the online classes we have had to sacrifice some of the social element of our practice such kids game time and socializing during Taiji.  However, the result has been classes which are entirely focused on the practice itself without any distractions or deviations.  I have missed the presence of quite a few of our students in the online classes.  However, I have been equally excited to have former students and new students joining in and even seeing a number of students actually training online more than I ever got to see them in class!

So, please know that CMAA is listening to all sound advice and waiting for directions from the state.  When issued we will proceed with offering safest, most productive classes available! So please stay tuned for updates!

Private Lessons- Kids and Adults (Kungfu and Tai Chi)
If you’re interested in setting up private lessons please let me know.  This can be for Kungfu, Tai Chi- Qigong, or even strength and conditioning.  If you have a particular interest just let me know and we can tailor the class structure to best suit you.  These lessons may be offered via ZOOM or in person (several possibilities here including indoor or outdoor classes).  Email or call for information if you (or your children) are looking for a highly productive, and focused martial arts lesson!  Private lessons are $50/hr for 1 lesson, or $40/hr for 5 lessons.

CMAA Shaolin 5 Animals
Our world has changed. The arrival of a pandemic required the world to shelter in place. For the sake of our community CMAA closed it doors. For the sake of our martial arts family CMAA needed to evolve. Challenge accepted. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. This is not the time to throw the towel in. This is the time to double down on our efforts and grow even more. I cant even begin to describe just how proud I am this group. GREAT WORK CMAA FAM!

Stay tuned for next month’s routine!  Shaolin Louhan 18 Hands!

5 Animals Qigong
Please enjoy a few of the best demonstrations of the 5 Animals Qigong.  Each video has different feel but all are suitable to follow.  See which you like the most.

Practice Tai Chi and Qigong at Home
Home practice sessions are wonderful because you can focus on exactly what you want, for the amount of time you want.   In addition, because you are alone, and independent in your practice, you will be forced to remain conscious.  That means you can’t simply follow or otherwise zone out and hope no one noticed.  You can practice without being self conscious of onlookers and with increased awareness of your own form.  You can make it a ten minute practice or an hour and ten minutes, it’s up to you. Check out some our recommendations and resources here!
