CMAA: Meet Kai Norman Geller!

Kai couldn’t wait to meet everyone and decided to surprise us with an early arrival on Father’s Day!

I can’t express how much I appreciate our CMAA team rallying to help keep classes running smoothly during our initial hospital stay.  It was such a relief to know classes could run without interruption and that I could be with Zoey and Kai in their time of need.

“Thank you everyone for your kind words and support for Kai’s early arrival. We feel so lucky to have all of you as friends and family. Your thoughtfulness to offer covering Lucas’s absence; Your cards with all the love and hugs; Your flowers with all the excitement; Your food and gifts with love nutritions...We are so grateful and appreciative. Lucas and I have been feeling very appreciative with what we have in our life. Now we have Kai. And what makes it even better is the love from all of you. We can’t wait to introduce you all to Kai! – Zoey”

Private Kungfu, Tai Chi lessons in the comfort of your own home!
If you’ve ever wanted to learn Tai Chi or Kungfu but the commute is just not feasible, or you prefer to practice individually, in the comfort of your own home/space, we can now help you with that!  We can go at your own pace, and tailor the lesson to your exact interests.  Zoom is an App that allows us to video chat from our Ipad or Laptop.  While this type of technology is not new, it is now high enough quality that with a good connection, we can perform movements and talk easily without any issues. It is FREE to download and use.   Call (518) 755-7512 or Email AlbanyCMAA@gmail.com to learn more about scheduling and pricing! Learn more about Zoom here.  https://zoom.us/

KUNGFU SASH TEST
We will be holding our quarterly Sash Test on Sunday, July 8th at 10:30am. If you are not sash testing you are still encouraged to come participate and support your teammates (no charge of course).

You know exactly what we will be testing but if you have any questions, check the Sash Requirements page on the website and feel free to clarify things with me during class.
If you are unsure whether or not you (or your child) are ready to test, please speak with me before or during class, via email at AlbanyCMAA@gmail.com or by phone (518) 755-7512.
Remember, you will not “get” your sash at CMAA – you will EARN it! There is a big difference. It’s important you (your child) learns the value of their sash- the value of hard work! Let’s stay focused and step up our training so we’re fully prepared for the test!

White/Yellow/Green/Blue: $25
Red/Purple/Orange: $50
Light Brown/Dark Brown/Gold: $75
Black: $100

KUNGFU TRAINING IN CHINA
Growing up I had a video of the Tianjin Wushu Team training. It was one of my favorites and one of the most watched videos in my collection. I enjoyed the high energy of the athletes as they ran sections during practice. The pace, and variety was more entertaining than watching full athletes full sets in competition. I ended up losing it somehow. Eventually, I had the opportunity to purchase a second copy. Years later, I lost that as well. Just today, I came across it. I figured I needed to upload it before I lost it again! 😊

Of note, check out the guy doing spear! Absolutely amazing! (10:45, 12:30, 14: 28, 17:00).

Martial Arts Competition in Albany

Get ready to COMPETE! All levels are encouraged to compete in the upcoming North East Open! This competition is good for all levels (beginner-advanced). It's well run, with a good atmosphere! And best of all its right here in Albany!

Get all the info here:
http://www.northeastopen.com/

Why compete?

Competition. We learn important lessons when we compete and martial arts offer all types of competitions for those who seek to benefit from competition experience. From small tournaments to national and international tournaments, individuals can choose to compete in either individual forms or various types of sparring. From goal setting to developing the confidence to perform in front of a large group, it doesn’t matter which events they choose, the benefits remain numerous. From learning to deal with loss and disappointment, to winning gold, qualifying for a national team spot or competing internationally, important life lessons will be learned. Additionally, achievements can also be listed on student’s CV’s.

Special Guests

It was great to have such wonderful guests at CMAA! Thank you for visiting and sharing your kindness and knowledge! I learned a lot hearing these guys talk shop afterward. From competitions, coaching, strength/conditioning, judging, Wushu culture, it was great to be privy to such thoughtful discussions!

CMAA Water Bottles
Please help CMAA go green!  Throwing out hundreds of paper cups a week we have decided to ask students to bring their own water to class.  New CMAA water bottles will be available to purchase for $5, though any water bottle is OK of course!  Regular bottles of water can always be purchased during class for a dollar.  Thank you!
